MORE ABOUT THE ISSUE:
Wind power is the fastest-growing energy sector in the world. There is growing suspicion that the landscape impact of wind power will have an economic impact on tourism, which will outweigh the value of the wind electricitY. Two new wind projects are planned for Maryland—Savage Mountain and Dans Mountain.

OUR OBJECTIVES:

• Develop guidelines to identify visually appropriate and visually sensitive sites for wind development at the state, regional and local levels.
• Develop guidelines for aesthetic impact assessment of wind energy projects.
• Suggest wind energy companies work with FAA and AWEA to reduce lighting impacts of wind projects.
• Develop guidelines for long-term maintenance of wind energy projects.
• Study pre and post construction public attitudes toward specific wind energy projects.
