MORE ABOUT THE ISSUE:
Maryland is now permanently conserving more land than it is losing to development. This achievement is due to its successful land preservation initiatives, like Program Open Space. These programs are now threatened. Openspace funds have been cut and diverted with no provision for repayment. Not only are Maryland’s land conservation programs losing their dedicated funding, now it looks as if precious state lands that are already protected could be for sale.
