Strategies for good community design mean smart growth and the limiting of sprawling development. The distinctive appearance of business and residential neighborhoods is important in determining how we feel about our community. Haphazard development, or sprawl, can easily alter the unique character of a community. Preserving the aesthetic continuity of the built environment helps communities maintain their spirit and appeal.
OUR OBJECTIVES:
• Perform a scenic inventory with input and advice from communities.
• Support strengthened planning and zoning to protect the following scenic resources: rural historic districts, rural legacy and heritage area and agricultural preservation districts.
• Advocate for state funding dedicated to scenic resource protection.
• Advocate for incentives and funding for state and local programs to assist property owners to reclaim the equality of visual environment.
• Seek new historic districts ordinances with design guidelines.
• Advocate incorporating design elements to enhance visual quality in all elements of the built environment
