Founded in 2001 by citizen activists and professionals from a variety of disciplines, Scenic Maryland works toward the goal of promoting Maryland's visual quality of life. We seek to reclaim the visual environment of Maryland’s established neighborhoods, provide critical assistance to communities seeking to protect their sense of place, preserve the scenic countryside and historic landscapes of the state, and promote transportation planning and design that preserves scenic resources. We are an affiliate organization of Scenic America and work closely with them at the national level on many of these goals.
• To educate and advocate for scenic resources, serving as a voice for the scenic beauty of Maryland.
• To reclaim the visual environment of Maryland's established neighborhoods.
• To preserve the scenic countryside and historic landscapes of Maryland.
• To promote transportation planning and design that preserves scenic resources.

Maryland is a uniquely beautiful state—home of the Chesapeake Bay; of rivers and wetlands; of rich, rolling farmland; of historic villages, towns, and cities; and of the Appalachian Mountains and Allegheny plateau. This scenic heritage is under siege from haphazard development, intrusive signs, telecommunications towers, and road"improvement" projects.
